Well maintained hotel. Beautiful food and fantastic staff. I will return

Marian scored 5 / 5 on 27/09/2017

The staff at this hotel, from the managers to the support staff, were without exception the most welcoming and obliging staff we have come across anywhere. The hotel facilities, the food and everything about the hotel were excellent. When we mentioned 1 minor glitch with regard to food, prompted by the Manager enquiring about our stay, it was dealt with in a most professional manner, with an honest apology and a free drink on the house. Will definitely go back!

Martina scored 5 / 5 on 18/07/2017

We were overwhelmed with the wonderful warm welcome we got from the manager of this hotel. She seemed to have time for everyone and despite being very busy she came in the dining room to make sure we were enjoying our meal. The entertainment there was wonderful two guys playing made every effort to sing any song we asked. All the staff were extremely obliging and so nice. Food was delicious. Were given a discount voucher for a return visit. Though it is a long way from us we are really looking forward to returning.

Adrian scored 5 / 5 on 24/06/2017

Not a 5 star hotel but staff and service was 5+. From the second we arrived all four of us were made feel likely royalty. No ask was too big of the staff. From the reception to the bar staff. I've stayed in supposed better rated hotels and have not wceives such attention. Travelling with 2 2 year olds was always going to be tough but we didn't feel it once as the hotel staff always interacted with them to distract them from boredom. There's so much great things I could say about this place but I would be here forever. Thanks again for a great break. We'll be back

Patsy scored 3 / 5 on 16/11/2015

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bedrooms need updating - carpet, paintwork. Had lunch in the bar and it was inedible. Stew way over salted and gloopy. Open Crab sandwich was so covered in dressing I couldn't taste it. In fairness when I said this to the bar manager he refused to charge for the lunch. the leisure center was great, nice long pool, steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi.

Really enjoyed our stay and very happy all round with the hotel and the staff with one exception and that was on checkout we were being over charged as the receptionist was at first was insisting that the deposit we paid through Lidl was not to be deducted from the overall price. She did however retract this (without apology) and we were charged correctly but was a little disappointing. Been to the hotel a few times and would go again without hesitation.

Izzy scored 4 / 5 on 27/01/2015

Enjoyed the theme of the Station House and we had an lovely meal there with live music. It was lovely to have the facilities of the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room in the leisure centre. The staff were very genuine, friendly and helpful. The room wouldn't be 4 star for me but it was clean and comfortable. Would definitely go back.

Nigh scored 5 / 5 on 14/01/2015

Romantic weekend for two, lovely room, birthday effort in the restaurant at our dinner, great location, omey island, upper sky road, music in the pubs, 5 stars service. Only issue is delay in Breakfast, get down there early if you have plans for your day, but still does not take away from very positive hotel and weekend.

Marianbayliss scored 4 / 5 on 30/09/2014

I ordered two rooms. My guests are providing this review. Clean hotel. Staff adjusted to our needs - changed a twin to a double. Large choice for breakfast and enjoyable. Good location for the shops in Cliften.

Brent scored 5 / 5 on 22/06/2014

A lovely hotel. Very clean. Staff were welcoming. Good choice for breakfast. Good location. Only small gripe was that the Internet on TV required a PhD to get it going. You have to use a combination of the keyboard and remote control before things would happen. One wrong button and you had to start from the beginning again.

Christina scored 5 / 5 on 17/06/2014

Stayed at Hotel on 6th/7th June 2014 - booked 4 rooms. (7people) No complaints at all about hotel/location/cliften - nothing to fault. Hotel was excellent, location wise, food wise, and staff were fantastic - Celebrated 50 birthday with dinner in their restauraunt (where other friends joined us). the food was fabulous, as was the service, and reasonably priced too. - All the gang went home happy. Fabulous location for touring the beautiful Connemara region - and for the nightly entertainment in clifden bars etc. Would love to be going again asap!!!!.... and would recommend it to anyone.

Brid scored 2 / 5 on 28/05/2014

Stayed the weekend of the tour of connemara. It was very busy and extremely noisy. Very bad insulation could hear people outside all night as we were opposite the bar. The food was nice and a good supply at breakfast. Good leisure facilities but due to lack of sleep would not return. Clifden is a lovely town with great traditional music.

Liz scored 3 / 5 on 25/05/2014

Had a lovely few days in the Clifden House Hotel! it was very clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and courteous. Had food in the bar on 2 days which was excellent. The only negatives were they could have had a bigger choice on the menu in the bar and you had to ask at reception to get a drink in the Library bar, but having said that I would definitely go back again.

My wife and I stayed in the hotel for two nights. The room was very comfortable and clean; our only criticism was that it was too warm for us but the radiator control was simple to adjust. The bathroom well equipped with everything that we needed. Breakfast is buffet style and excellent though we would have liked a greater selection of wholemeal breads. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent with a decent choice of dishes and they stocked a local craft beer. The staff in all departments were courteous, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would be very happy to stay there again. Clifden is an excellent centre from which to tour Conamara.

Jean scored 4 / 5 on 11/02/2014

We really enjoyed our stay at the station house clifden . The food was absolutely fabulous . The staff were very friendly and we would certainly go again . If we were to say anything negative it would only be that we would have loved if there was a bit more craic agus ceoil as it was clifden connemara but we presume this was on account of being this particular time of year but we definitely would go again .:)

The room service was brilliant and the staff friendly. Breakfast was superb. The hotel also has a fully equipped leisure centre and spa. We had fun!

WE REALLY ENJOYED THE LEISURE CENTRE AND THE KIDS LOVED THE THEATRE . THE STAFF WERE FRIENDLY & OUR ROOM CONSISTED OF A DOUBLE & 2 SINGLES JUST ADEQUATE SPACE. IT WAS CLEANED EVERY DAY . WE DID HAVE A LOOK AT THE APPARTMENTS ATTACHED TO THE HOTEL IF WE WENT AGAIN WE MIGHT AVAIL OF ONE AS THEY ARE VERY SPACIOUS. BEAUTIFUL SCENERY IN THE CLIFDEN AREA WELL WORTH A VISIT.

We had a very enjoyable stay in Clifden Station House. The staff were extremely friendly which I found a delight as in recent times I find that hotels lack in this department. The room was gorgeous and very warm. The pool, jacuzzi and steam room were most enjoyable. We found the other guests and locals very friendly. This was our first trip to Connemara loads to see and do we will definetely be back to the Station House and would have no hesitation recommending it. We visited Kylemore Abbey which is nearby and a must see with its beautiful walled gardens, architecture and interesting history. The onsite cinema at the station house is very convenient we enjoyed going to see Captain Philips there. I would inquiry next time about staying longer in one of the apartments as we were told that the station house do very competitive deals for a week B&B plus some evening meals so perhaps we will return at Easter as would love to go to the nearby adventure centre, the mines and fit in some hill walking / beach walks.

My Husband and I stayed at the Clifden Station House Hotel for 1 night midweek and would highly recommend it. From the moment we checked in until we checked out we could not find fault. The reception staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Our bedroom and bathroom were bright, fresh and very clean. We were on a dinner, bed and breakfast package which was really good value. We dined in the restaurant and the staff were again very friendly, efficient and made us feel welcome. The menu had a good selection and the food was well presented and delicious. We had a few drinks in the Station House Bar across from the main hotel and again there was a nice friendly atmosphere there. Buffet breakfast the next morning was well laid out with a good continental and cooked selection. We will definitely return to the Station House Hotel in the near future.

We stayed at the Clifden Station House for a romantic weekend in February 2013. The room was lovely and cosy but would have been better without the 2nd bed. We had dinner in the restaurant on one night and the food was delicious. The waiting staff were particularly friendly and were always smiling. The buffet breakfast was also really tasty and fresh. The food was hot and didn't seem to be sitting there for a long time. The Hotel bar opposite the Hotel's reception is nice for a quiet drink and there was music there on the Friday night which was lively but not so loud that you could not have a conversation. The Hotel also has a spa and leisure centre but we did not get around to using either. All in all we would highly recommend staying here as a base for exploring Connemara or just as a relaxing getaway. TL

Mary ; Myself and my husband stayed at Station House, Clifden on Sat night 3rd Nov which was booked for us by my daughter as a bithday present for my husband; This was our second time staying there as we stayed there over a year ago and on both occassions we could not fault the hotel or their staff ; Rooms and food were excellent even though we didn't have dinner there we ate in Mitchell's on the Square, their food is excellent but rather pricy .We were made feel very welcome in Station House apart from the Receptionist who was on on Sunday morning in main Reception Hall , a tall long dark haired lady who made you feel as if she was doing you a favour being there, a smile would crack her face. Civility costs nothing and buys everything. Dining Room staff on Sunday morning were very attentive and the dining room was fairly busy and lady putting people to their tables was a treat she was so pleasant.and fully on top of her job. Overall very good i would certainly recommend it . Will be back le cunamh Dé

Hi, Stayed at the Station House Hotel on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd November. Found the staff very welcoming and made use of the pool - though not a very big pool and can get quite busy quickly. We didnt eat in the Hotel but were offered 3 course a la carte menu for €30 per head. If I was to be critical we found the bed a tad uncomfortable. But overall had a nice experience and definitely worth the money that we paid for it on here

The Jewel in the Connemara Crown Reviewed 17 September 2012 There is something quite magical about Clifden. It feels like there is champagne in the air. The town was busy when we arrived on Saturday afternoon with lots of people milling around in a happy, holiday mood. The Clifden Station House hotel is well signposted and easy to find. Kathy on Reception made us feel most welcome and check in was quick and efficient. Our room was clean with a pleasant view over the courtyard and the facilities were good. Nice toileteries in the bathroom; tea/coffee making facilities with a little biscuit each; multi channel TV; good linen with 4 big pillows (there were 4 extra pillows in the wardrobe which was great!); nice, fluffy towels; excellent water power in the bath which filled up in seconds! I was amazed. The room temperature was just right and the window could be opened if required. The hotel is build in the grounds of the old Clifden railway station and the layout of the hotel reflects the traditional layout of the station. The old brick and stonework is evident as well as lots of ivy on the outer wall of the old style buildings. It was so lovely. One could say that this layout is unusual in the the leisure centre (while accessible from the main hotel building) is in a separate building while the main bar is across the courtyard. This in no way detracts from the atmosphere of the hotel it. There is a museum on site with lots of local artifacts from times gone by. Ther is also a little shopping centre of boutiques and hair dressing salon. There was live entertainment in all the pubs and we were spoilt for choice. There was Irish Dancing in Mannions and traditional music in a few others. We ended up in EJ King's where the craic was mighty with live music and buzzing atmosphere. The hotel was quiet with no loud noises or disturbances during the night. The next morning we had a delicious breakfast with a large variety of cereals, fresh fruit, brown bread, croissants and juices. Coffee/tea and toast were brought to the table by very pleasant, smiling staff. The cooked breakfast buffet was hot, tasty and plentiful. When paying my bill Kathleen, the receptionist told me that there was no hurry in checking out and not to be in any rush leaving which I thought was a nice touch and a nice start to a leisurely Sunday. This is a wonderful hotel located in a wonderful place. We drove back to Galway via Ballyconneely and Roundstone stopping off at the coral strand which is just the most magical beach ever. Green water, golden beach made up completely from coral and strewn with shells. This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Clifden is a 'must visit' town on your tour of Connemara. Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the courtyard - to the front of the hotel - are away from the main road so are quiet. Excellent value. Thank you Lidy.Break.ie :-)

Hi , stayed here with my wife on 15th sep for a 1 night break .The room was big enough and spotless , the staff on reception were very friendly and helpful , the pool etc ... was what I would expect , minimum from a 4 star hotel and I would have happily have stayed here again , until we went down for breakfast .We went up to the breakfast bar to get the full Irish where there were no staff ( chef ) I got 2 sausage, 1 each black & white pudding , 1 bacon ( that looked like it had been boiled or nuked , it did NOT see a frying pan ), some mushrooms that were still full of water and had a very strange taste and looked dirty , a tomato and some powdered scrambled egg , which I did not want , but the 12 or so fried eggs that were sat under the heating lamps ,looked like rubber bullet's and I would guess no one had had one all morning and to make things worse a female chef appeared with another tray of unwanted bacon. So I stood there and hoped she might ask if I was ok , or would like anything , e.g. a fresh fried egg ,( that I could see she was looking at them ) but no she did not even look up and quickly went back out the door .If I was a chef or restaurant manager I would be so embarrassed to serve those eggs..But , we had had a lovely night in Clifden so I could not be bothered to complain so we just sat down to eat , to which are tea and toast was waiting for us , sorry I mean tea and bread NOT TOAST ! now I just wanted to eat & get out quick to which we tried but every mouthful just tasted of salt ( cheap meat is always full of salt ,I would change my suppler ) , awful is to polite a word , but the tomato was nice, mainly because it tasted sweet and took away some of the salt. But sadly we could not take any more , and my wife had to get back to are room quick ! because it all came back up . And as for me , I drank 1.5 litres bottle of water on the way home and had a very bad stomach for 2 days ( trips to loo = 6 TIME'S OVER 2 DAYS ) .. It is such a shame that a simple thing like breakfast could turn a great night away into such a bad 2 days .... SORT IT OUT !!!!

This hotel is situated in an ideal location in terms of proximity to town. The hotel is surrounded by complementary facilities i.e. theatre, cinema, museum and coffee house each a mere 10 metres from the front door of the hotel. The hotel staff were friendly and it was an extremely pleasant experience staying here. There were four of us staying there and each of the party said they would be back....

The hotel is situated in a good location just off the main route into Clifden - basically from outside the hotel you walk about two minutes and you are in the centre. Hotel was very clean and staff friendly and welcoming. The food in the hotel was superb throughout our two night stay. I loved the indoor swimming pool/jacuzzi/sauna facilities especially when the weather turned bad - and it does on occasion in the West of Ireland! Clifden is an excellent base for touring this lovely part of the world and there is a lot to see - the tourist office is right beside the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel and would use it again. Stevo, County Antrim, Northern Ireland - stayed on 6th and 7th September 2012.

Weekend was good. Bedroom good, although the bath was very small for a 4 star hotel. Room a little noisy facing onto main road. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast good. Service was excellent and with a smile. Location excellent with free parking. For the price it was excellent, unlike some of the rubbish offers that come from insurance companies and banks, we will certainly look at lidl breaks again. MK.

What a lovely friendly and welcoming hotel. Our stay was for 2 nights bed & breakfast7th Oct to 9th Oct . Lovely comfortable clean rooms. I have to say the staff were so friendly, anytime we met any of the staff either in the corridor, the lift, the restaurant etc they were all very chatty especially the girls that were cleaning the rooms etc they went out of their way to ask was everything alright and just had general chit chat in the lift on one occasion which was really nice. breakfast was lovely great choice every morning. Will definitely be returning.

Our family of two adults and two children aged eight and ten enjoyed a one-night stay at the Station House Hotel. We had a nice dinner in the Bar, breakfast was very good and the pool clean with lovely warm water, great steam room and sauna. On arrival we were initially given a room with only 3 beds, but that was quickly and without fuss changed to a room with a double bed and double pull-out sofa. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and polite.

Our stay in the Clifden Station House Hotel was really enjoyable .The staff were friendly and the rooms bright ,clean and roomy. The meals very good and presented excellently. We found the locality very good for visiting the many sights such as Roundstone , Letterflack and the National park. My wife and I would recommend a stay in the hotel as good value for money.

This is the first time we have used the Lidl deal, we cannot believe the value. From now on we will be using it most months. We used two hotels ,Cliften Station and Boomfield in Mullingar. Both exceeded our hopes for such a low cost. Just BRILLANT thanks Lidil....

really enjoyed our break here.. the staff were really friendly and very obliging. Food was great and there was a nice variety on offer. There were a few things though that bothered us.. for a 4* hotel the rooms were a little cold! Also it was quite noisy.. You could hear everything going on outside the room as was the shower.. The water going through the pipes was really loud! Having said that, the value for money with the lidl break was really excellent. Had I paid more though for my room I think I would have been a bit disappointed

Galwaygirl scored 3 / 5 on 10/11/2010

I booked this hotel for my parents as a gift, they liked the hotel, food and location. The only problem was the room was freezing. The heating wasn't working and it was windy and raining outside so didn't help. They went to the reception to ask them to switch the heating on and they said they would have a look at it. Mom and dad went out for dinner came back to again a freezing room. They had brought this to the staff attention twice over the weekends stay but it was never fixed. It's really disapointing as it was a gift to them. They could have stayed at home in the warmt... its completely unacceptable for a hotel to have no heating in November... they didn't even apologies.

We had a great 2 day stay at the Clifden Station House Halloween weekend. The hotel was very comfortable staff friendly and helpful and there is a good athmosphere. Food was great especially the breakfast and dinner is available in the restaurant or in the Station House Bar which is more reasonably priced. We enjoyed our stay and thought it very good value and at this price we'll be back

We had a fabulous 3 night stay in your hotel in 2nd week in August 2010 with our 4 sons.aging from 13 to 25. A marvelous time was had by all of us. The hotel was great, staff very helpful and courteous, rooms lovely, great breakfasts but evening meal in dining room a bit pricey, should introduce an early bird or a better value meal in these recessionary times. Cliften is a beautiful town, great music and craic in the pubs and a fantastic place for a 2/3 night break.

Check in was efficient but lady at the desk not so friendly. Room was very clean and nicely furnished but mattress was very soft and sagged in the middle. Breakfast was well organised and very nice - hotel was able to provide alternatives like gluten free toast and boiled eggs for me. Dinner was very expensive in the restaurant but much more reasonably priced in the station house bar. We preferred to eat out though so cannot comment on the food. Would recommend if booked on this site as the rate is very good value.

Our stay at the Clifden Station House was perfect. Couldn't really fault it. Room airy, clean and bright. Everything worked. Showers worked well - plenty of hot water & towels. Food in the restaurant was surprisingly good - had read some mixed reviews about the two-cours emeal but this dodn't turn out to be the case with us. Leanred that it was possible to reserve a windoww seat for dinner - we'll do this next time. PArking closeby and free. Definitely coming back.

Comfortable, efficient, friendly, convenient, easy to access. Food good but not wonderful, however, for the price good value. Pool very busy due to courses being given to local children. The weather was good, so outside seating in addition to the existing benches would have been of benefit. Overall, very pleasant stay, and fantastic value for money.

The Lidl breaks are very good value for money. To have the Connemara area included in their destinations is great. The Hotel accommodation was very good, with a lively bar acrosss the car park. Wlith regard to food, the breakfast offered a good choice; the dinner included in the lidl break was OK offering a reasonable choice but you would know that you were having a 'value' break dinner. Overall, for the price, well worth it. The great aspect is the location.

We had a fantastic stay at the Station House Hotel. It is perfectly located to enjoy all of the picturesque scenery within minutes of the hotel. The food was out of this world and the spa was so relaxing. One of the best weekends we have ever had. A big thanks to Winston who's proffesionalism and dedication made our stay all the more enjoyable.

We stayed here for the May bank holiday weekend. The hotel is right in the centre of Clifden, close to shops and bars. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, the staff where very friendly and helpful, especially with directions to all the local attractions. The leisure centre attached to the hotel is free to all guest and the hot-tub was a welcome sight after hiking around the local area during the day. Would recommend this to everyone that is looking for an affordable break away.

We stayed here over the May bank holiday. Overall we were pleased with the hotel. The rooms were lovely and the location is ideal. The leisure centre was fine, fairly standard. All the staff were extremely friendly and obliging. We travelled with a baby and it was no problem to store baby food in the hotel kitchen fridge etc. Our only issue with this hotel was the lack of professional service in the restaurant. While the staff were friendly and happy to help, we found that they were not quite on the ball when it came to the little details. For example, our desserts were brought to our table without the dinner plates being cleared and we were left literally holding them in our hands wondering where we could put them! In the morning we had to ask several times for tea or toast. The food itself was quite good, with a good selection available. The waiting staff seemed to be very young and we had the feeling that they perhaps hadn't been given professional training in the little details. There were also billing issues as for some reason despite telling the restaurant that we were staying there with the Lidl package, they insisted on billing and having us sign for the meal as if we had ordered a la carte. When it came to check out a lot of extra charges from the restaurant (Euro 80 approx) were on the bill - the receptionist did remark that this happened a lot and she didn't understand why they did that in the restaurant.

Stayed here in early May. Loved this Hotel. It is on the old Clifden railway station. The hotel itself is very new and clean. The room was very clean and big enough. They also have a great bar just across from that does food. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was a joy. The hotel has a number of shops near its grounds including coffee shops etc. Nice leisure center as well Clifden itself is a big enough town. Many bars had music when we were there. Also a good base to discover Connamara.

The staff in the hotel were very friendly and welcoming and the service was excellent. The hotel is very central in Clifden and it was easy to get to the shops and Restaurants in the centre of the town. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The leisure facilities were superb and very well attended. The food in the Restaurant was excellent and again the service was first class. There was a good selection for us and our young children. Overall the short stay for the two of us and our three children was excellent, would willingly recommend the hotel for a short break. We stayed for two nights and could happily have stayed longer!
