We were very impressed with the Carrickdale the hotel is gorgeous staff are so professional and helpful . The food was excellent . We were shopping so a 9 mile drive to Newry was a dream . The hotel is located so near to all good shopping like The outlet village Banbridge or a trip to 24 hours Asda in Portadown. The facilities in the hotel like pool and spa were a bonus . Highly recommend this luxury hotel . Ps had a super sleep didn’t hear a sound and had breakfast to the room for only a €4 charge .

A fabulous hotel in every way ...beautiful newly bedroom and bathroom beautiful food....a very spacious lobby and very comfortable seating ...outdoor area with heaters only beautiful ...and the most fabulous part of this hotel is it’s beautiful meticulously maintained gardens which have to be seen to be believed. Busy hotel but very welcoming. We stayed for one night in a very large, comfortable room. Ate bar food for dinner which was delicious. Relaxing ambience all round and the open fire added extra warmth. All in all a great place to stay.

Overall stay was just OK. We were given a room directly above the reception which looked out at a roof. We asked to be moved to a higher floor but were told the hotel was fully booked the next night and we were there for 2 nights so couldn't be moved. This is the older part of the hotel and could do with a bit of an update. The corridors in this part of the hotel just smelt of food as it must be above the kitchen. On the 2nd night there was a wedding at the hotel and some of the guests partied in the reception until almost 6:00 am so therefore we didn't get much sleep. The dinners were good but limited to a smaller menu as we were on a package deal. Definitely would need a few vegetarian options as I had to have the same dinner both nights as it was the only vegetarian option available. Service was slow but OK if you called the staff every time. Pool area was good though there was some work taking place while we were there. Don't think I'd stay there again! I have stayed in better hotels for the same price! PS the gardens are amazing though. It's a pity they don't take the same pride in the rest of the hotel.

Fachtna scored 4 / 5 on 11/06/2016

For the price we paid - €70 b and b per night for two adults and two children - it was really good value. The hotel was clean, the room was comfortable, the staff were good, the food was fine but there are better places to eat in the locality. The swimming pool was great and children are allowed in the indoor jacuzzi which was a novelty for them! There is an outdoor one for adults only. The hotel carpets are a little tired and tattered. There is a great secure residents car park. The location is excellent with lots to do in the area for families. We highly reccomend Slieve Gullion Forest Park. We would go back at this price!

We had a nice stay here, Gardens are beautiful. There was a mix up with our room on arrival and it was sorted quickly. Didn't realise the hotel was so far out from anything, you would really need a car here to visit nearby Dundalk and Newry.

Elaine scored 5 / 5 on 18/03/2015

We booked an Overnight at the Carrickdale Hotel while we were visiting Belfast. Loved this hotel. The staff were so friendly and efficient from the minute you checked in to the time you were leaving. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We had sunday carvery lunch which we had no complaints with. Servings were plentiful and again nothing to much trouble. At breakfast we had full Irish breakfast which was served to you rather than buffet. Food was piping hot and again plenty of it. We stayed in a family room which was huge and lots of space for myself partner and 7yr old. As we were only staying for one night we didnt get to try out any of the leisure or spa activities. There was crazy golf and playground for the kids. Overall highly recommend this hotel we will definitely be back and at the value of the Lidl Breaks made our stay well worth the money.

John scored 4 / 5 on 14/01/2015

Great location for exploring Belfast/Newry and surrounding area. Lovely leisure centre and facilities are excellent there. Restaurant was fair. They were extremely busy the night we went for dinner and very slow as a result but when we mentioned this they insisted on sending a manager to meet us, who apologised and gave us the bottle of wine we had with dinner for free! Very fair and appreciated. Very good value on Today FM Breaks! This is our third time using Today FM Breaks due to the value compared to booking elsewhere or directly. We will be back in the Carrickdale hopefully! John from Laois.

Sandyk scored 3 / 5 on 21/07/2014

When we arrived there was confusion about our room, I think it was given to someone else in error, they also offered me a better price but it was the price I had booked under. They arranged another room for us straight away but when we went up it hadn't been cleaned yet so we had to go off for a while. I found the staff extremely nice and pleasant to deal with at all times but there seemed to be alot of confusion about what was going on e.g. times of bar food etc. The hotel was clean and comfortable, the pool factilites very good but detatched from hotel which we weren't aware of prior to arrival. I found the selection at breakfast a little limiting but food was good. The hotel a bit off the beaten track so if you were looking a variety of things to do in walking distance it wouldn't suit but it was ideal for us.

Excellent hotel.Booked a family room which was big and comfortable. Had bar food which was very well priced and tasted great as well. Staff very friendly and helpful as well. Probably the best hotel we stayed in that had wifi coverage everywhere even in the bedroom. Used this hotel as a base to travel to Belfast and would definitely stay again. No problem recommending this to other people.

Bernie scored 4 / 5 on 22/05/2014

Our visitors from Austria and ourselves enjoyed our stay at the Carrickdale Hotel. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Dinner was very good, with fresh fish, steaks, and tasty sauces. There are lovely country walks beside the hotel, which is situated in an area of beautiful mountains and valleys.

Marie scored 5 / 5 on 05/04/2014

Just back from an overnight stay at the Carrickdale. What can we say but we never had a break like it. From the second you arrive till you check out you are treated like royality. the food, staff, and the facilities were second to none. the staff could not do enough for us and the room was clean big and airy. we did not have time to use the complex but when we return we intend to do so. We will be bad again. Thank you Carrickdale.

Trishf scored 5 / 5 on 11/02/2014

Excellent hotel and we paid so little. We just wanted to get away for a day or two without having to pay huge money as we do this quite often. Easy to get there as 1 minute off M1 motorway. Excellent speedy check-in and staff were super friendly and very helpful. Family room was very big and roomy, 2 kids were thrilled. Queensize bed was gorgeous too. Everything was spotless. Very quiet at night. Bar food was excellent. Leisure facilities were just what we needed, also very clean and up to high standard. Such a great family break. It was all we needed and we were very happy we chose the Carrickdale hotel. Thanks.

I was not happy in there. While I ordered 4 main dishes for 2 adult 2 children and 1 side dish for baby, the waitress served 5 main dishes + 1 side dish for us. I clearly ordered menu, but she pretended she was right in Bar of hotel. We were 2 adults, 3 children, 10, 5, 3 and then how she thought we ate all! Room and pool was ok, but............

would definitely book breaks away again with lidl-breaks it was a great deal that I got. the swimming pool facilities are the best I've ever seen, the spa resort is fantastic the staff are absolutely amazing and brilliant at their jobs, very friendly lovely people however although the spa resort was fantastic I found there to be an awful lot of mix ups in the hotel itself with rooms beds and a lot of wrong information given to me about the prices of rooms and meals. will definitely go back to the spa but will have to find different hotel to stay in.

Peter scored 5 / 5 on 07/03/2013

We are four adults who stay regularly at the Carrickdale. We have always enjoyed our stay; the staff and general service is top class standard and is always a pleasure for us. We have stayed in many "five star hotels" but have a preference for the informality of the Carrickdale. Peter Higgins.

Eva scored 3 / 5 on 19/02/2013

Loved the hotel, rooms and leisure centre! Our weekend would be fantastic if the staff in the restaurant and food would be better. We kinda got a feeling that our dinner was different from other guests cause we booked through Lidl-breaks. The started was dry and looked old, main was awful and only desert was okay..And the same in breakfast - I never had so bad Irish breakfast, it wasn`t freshly cooked. The hotel was lovely but the restaurant brought that all down and kinda bit dissapointed us.

We stayed two nights in a very spacious family room: perfect for me, my sister and my 20-month-old nephew to share. The room was spotless and with good facilities. The housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful. The food choices for breakfast were good (cereals, fruit, yoghurts, juices, croissants and pastries, plus the usual hot stuff, which was cooked to order). The leisure facilities are good and child friendly, with a kids' pool, playground and landscaped gardens. The lobby area has comfy chairs and a real fire, and is a pleasant place to relax and read the paper. The slippy and somewhat precarious tiled corridor and steps to the tunnel under the road to access the leisure centre are the reason that I gave four rather than five stars. I would stay at the Carrickdale again and I would have no hesitation in using Lidl-Breaks.ie again.

Terri scored 4 / 5 on 04/11/2012

A charming hotel in a beautiful part of Ireland. The staff were so pleasant, helpful and kind to us during our stay. The food is simply WONDERFUL - we never eat in the same hotel twice when on a break but we did this time because we enjoyed dinner so much on the first night. Very generous portions, excellent service and great taste. My favourite element of this break is that I was served breakfast as I hate self service and find nothing more of a culinary turn off than looking into a container full of sausages or bacon so well done for a great service from all the team. Our room was lovely and comfortable (except for the pillows - very hard and uncomfortable) and spacious enough for both of us and our son. well done to all at the Carrickdale. We will be back!

The Carrickdale Hotel is situated near Jonesborough which makes it an ideal location to stay when one is thinking of visiting the nearby towns of Newry or Drogheda, which have lots to offer, the hotel itself is clean, staff are very friendly, helpful in everyway possible and the staff are genuine in their hospitality. We really enjoyed the food in the restaurant and there is a spa and leisure centre across the road for anyone who wishes to pamper themselves or work of those extra pounds. Overall the whole experience was excellent and we will be returning to them soon in the near future.

When travelling from Belfast to Dublin, I always admired the beautiful setting of the Carrickdale Hotel so I decided to book 2 nights for myself and my daughter for an Easter break and I'm really delighted I did! The staff were very welcoming and friendly on our arrival which is a great first impression and sets the whole tone of the break. Our room was lovely and the food was delicious - no complaints. The gym and instructors were great and we used the leisure complex as often as we could enjoying every single moment. Relaxing in the foaming hot tub overlooking the mountains was just the essence of tranquility and serenity and we departed feeling invigorated and totally renewed. I can't wait to book again and I would highly recommend the experience.

We had a really relaxing night here. The hotel is really comfortable and the family room is the best we have ever stayed in. The room was really spacious with two full single beds for our kids as well as a large double for us. The place was spotless, staff were friendly and the food was great too. THe only thing is that the hotel is in a pretty drab location - literally beside the motorway with nothing near it. Having said that they have cultivated a really beautiful garden to walk in and the leisure centre is great. Iif you just want to stay in a really comfortable place for a night or two you couldnt ask much more than this. All in all a great stay.

Myself and my wife booked into the carricdale for a two night stay, 2bb and 2 dinners, value for money was very good, 199euro all in. Unfortunatly we have to say that the menue for the evening meals on this deal was a very restricted menue and on both nights we were very very displeased with the food, quility of the food was disgracfull, we also on arrival upgraded to an exceitive suite, the tv had all of 6 channels on it, thank god we were not with our 9 yr old and the mini bar was not stocked, On arrival we told the recpitionist we would be paying by cash, she told us that it was the hotels policy to take an imprint of our laser card and told us no money would be charger to the card, it turns out that 249euro was charged to the card 5 days later and with some very iriate calls to the hotel manager we still have not been reemburesed our money to our laser card, so in total we have paid 300 cash on departure and a further 249 on our laser a total of 549 , the manager michell has been extremly unhelpfull and rude in resolving this issiue, so folks there is many many good quility hotels out there looking for your hard earned cash, my advice stay well away from this hotel out of ten 0 from mark and sharon in dublin.

Myself and & friends stayed in this hotel last Saturday night. We had a great time. The facilities are great and it's well worth the money. The food was lovely. The rooms were nice. The decor isn't very modern but it's clean and everything works. There was entertainment in the bar that night as well so we all had a great time. The hotel was very busy and seems to be very popular. I found the staff friendly and helpful. I would recommend this. I think the Lidl deal is 5 stars as it's very good value for money but I would rate the hotel itself at about 3.5 stars.

Stayed at Carrickdale Hotel on 21st Jan 2012 on a 'Lidl Break' excellent value, great service and nice surroundings. This is a busy hotel, well managed with good service and very friendly staff. Rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and quite. Good atmosphere in restaurant and bar. Live music on Saturday night. We had a nice meal with a good selection to choose from which was complimented with efficient and friendly service. Leisure centre with pool, gym and wet area. Spa facilities too but did not check out on this occasssion. Management at this busy hotel to be commended, we enjoyed our stay and will return.

We stayed in Carrickdale hotel on Monday 31st. October. This was our second time staying in the Carrickdale, and as before, it was up to its usual excellent standards--warm welcome, courteous staff, good food, and personal attention. We'll be back!.

At first glance this hotel might appear a little in need of an update on the interior but beneath the decor is a warm, friendly, comfortable and spotlessly clean place. Great service with fantastic food and a lively atmosphere in the bar. Had a gorgeous toasted sandwich as a snack as well as staying for the delicious dinner. Breakfast is as wholesome and hearty as you'd expect in this part of the country. Lovely pool and gym also - very clean and well maintained. Staff very courteous and helpful - obviously a very well run place and definitely worth a return visit. Very handy to get to and from Dublin - just off junction 20 on the M1. No hesitation in recommending - just don't judge it on the surface decor.

This is our third min-break at the Carrickdale - the leisure centre is really excellent and the gardens surrounding are beautifully maintained and very pretty. Children and adults alike enjoyed the pool and facilities and the crazy golf course was well-used and enjoyed by all. Staff are lovely and very efficient, rooms clean and comfortable. Food is reasonable in price as well and generous portions. Try and get a room at the back of the hotel - quieter and cooler in the Summer. Will keep returning. CAROCAET

I recently booked 3 rooms for my family and my sister's family which consists of 7 children. We were very happy with everything, the staff were very friendly , food had generous portions and the rooms spacious. We availed of the leisure centre and found the girl on the front desk extremely helpful. In the evening the live music went down very well with both adults and children. I could not fault anything and would definitely recommend this hotel and will go back again. Carlingford is nearby and well worth a visit. Fantastic value for money!!

The spa was excellent, Una the therapist was very professional and friendly. The food was good but some form of garnish on the main course would make all the difference. The room was clean but the view was terrible - gas tank and old railings - not a good look. The bed was clean but we were shocked there was no douvet just blankets - not good. The staff were excellent - very helpful and friendly.

Hi, I booked this Hotel for a Christmas get together, it was a very successful weekend, there was 16 of us - 8 couples, and no complaints whatsoever! Even though at one stage we didnt know whether we would be able to go due to the weather conditions, but thankfully 16 out of 20 made it. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had a great night. Food, music, drink etc. were all excellent, it was a magic weekend and hopefully we can do it again this December. I would rate the Hotel 5 out of 5. The Dublin True Blues!!!

Seven members of my family had a %u201Cget together%u201D in The Carrickdale Hotel in mid November using Lidl-breaks. We sat in the roasting hot outdoor hot tub and looked at the stars on Friday evening. We visit Belfast on the Saturday and went sightseeing in the Carlingford/Newry area on the Sunday. The staff were very friendly and helpful but what we especially liked was the open fire in the foyer, very suitable for drinking the hot whiskeys around ! This was our first time to use a Lidl break offer and we all agreed it was a huge success. Food was splendid and we had a lovely relaxing comfortable and warm stay

The Carrickdale is a beautiful hotel I've stayed there on a number of occasions and always find myself coming back. It's quiet surroundings and comfortable rooms make for a home away from home. The food is lovely with large portions no skimping there. The staff from the receptionist to the house staff are kind, courtious, friendly and refreshing a simple hello to a smile can make the difference to a persons day. They realy know how to make you feel special like your the only guest staying. I'm returning next week and bringing 20 other people along, you see it's my self and my husband 50th birthday ans yes we choose to spend it at the Carrickdale. Some of our guests have also booked on the lidl website we find it easy to book and resonable with the prices great value for money. Rose and Martin Doyle Finglas, Dublin

A clean Hotel with great service in all areas friendly bar and restaurant staff and great gym complex the price was great we stayed for three days. The only let down was FOOD FOOD FOOD it all seemed to be microwaved and or put under a hot plate making it dry and tasteless the beef had like a pie crust of gravy the salmon was the same in fact it could have cooked on the plates thay were that hot. I got the impression the food was already plated in a cold room and just microwaved to serve, you also got a very limited range of rubbish food Beef, salmon or Chicken, same menu each night thats yer lot food was like a cheap spanish hotel from the 1970s. The breakfast was the same could not eat the rubber eggs or dried up black and white pudding and cardboard kippers. Also at breakfast had to ask staff for everything, milk, toast, sauces and they really didnt seem to care if you were staying in hotel but when someone mentioned they were attending a conference different attitude must be the tips. Great hotel if you dont like food suggest you bring your own sandwiches.

From the moment we arrived to a friendly greeting from reception to the moment we left we enjoyed our break at the Carrickdale. We were a family of 4 including 2 five year old boys. Highlights were the swimming pool leisure centre area. Clean comfortable, all facilities working. Lovely outdoor hot-tub in stunning gardens. Breakfast was delicious. Had huge Irish breakfast on first morning and fillet of Plaice on the second (yummy). We ate in the hotel on the first evening. Generous portions, very reasonably priced. Staff were very accommodating bringing extra sauce, plates, big jugs of icy water, offering to put orange cordial in water if we wanted etc. In general it was very child friendly. Our room was huge. Also distance from Newry (10/15 minutes) and its main shopping centres was a plus. We ate there on the second night. (Check out Blue Print Pizza, excellent pizzeria/family restaurant/very busy – near Dunnes Stores). There was a halloween hunt for kids on the Sunday morning around the lovely gardens. Would definitely do another Lidl break and go back to the homely and comfy Carrickdale. Thanks to both. EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY. Regards Claire

Stayed two nights from the 15th oct. room a bit dated but spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Leisure centre through a tunnel under the road which was not what you would expect but did'nt stop us using the facilties which were great. Alot kept being made of the fact the lidl break menu was different to the main menu which was a little annoying could probably be done better if you were given a voucher for the restaurant. All in all a great weekend for a great price.

I arrived with 4 special needs clients and myself and one other girl. I cannot fault the staff for the help and assistance they gave to us. The rooms were beautiful and the food was great. The one negatvie thing I would have to say is the leisure centre being across the road. We had no way of getting the wheelchair down the stairs with in the hotel and had to drive across the road . But this was compensated by the friendlyness and warmth of the staff. Lucia Stewarts Hospital

Excellent food at this hotel - Bar lunch and restaurant dinners are both really good. Rooms are exceptionally spacious and views are great. It's the best of both worlds here as it's in the heart of the country, five miles from Newry. Leisure Centre & Gardens are fabulous especially the hot tub overlooking the beautiful gardens. Lastly, Carrickdale staff are so nice & helpful with a real enthusiasm for what they're doing.

The hotel was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food in the bar and the restaurant were delicious. It was a great value for money break and I would definitely recommend it. My only quibble with the online booking was that I decided to add on another night to my original 2 nights booking, but the site did not allow me to do this and treated it as a completely separate booking. I therefore had to pay the rate for a single night's booking (%u20AC39 per person for the extra night ) instead of the rate of %u20AC35 per person per night which I had been charged for my original booking for 2 nights. However, it was only an additional %u20AC8 in total so I can't really complain, as it was still excellent value, but it would be helpful if there was a facility for amending your original booking if you need to make changes later.

The food was excellent too, especially the breakfast, fantastic choice & beautifully cooked and there was a huge buffet of cold items as well. I've paid a lot more and got a lot less in many hotels. I'd happily recommend this hotel. Only one tiny thing, the rooms are a bit dated decor-wise but they are immaculately clean.

We recently stayed at the Carrickdale in a very spacious family room. The facilities at the Carrickdale are excellent for a hotel in this price bracket. While the decor in the rooms was a tiny bit dated, everything was clean & functional The leisure centre & gardens are superb & there's free wifi throughout the hotel. We used the Carrickdale as a base for exploring the Cooley peninsula and beyond (i.e. the Giants Causeway), therefore it's location was a huge success. Finally, I can't finish without giving a big thumbs-up to the staff throughout the hotel. We received a proper Cead Mile Failte, that can only be found in Ireland. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Stayed at Carrickdale with my gf during Bank Holiday weekend. It was fantastic, relaxing break. The staff was very helpful, friendly and attentive, rooms were clean and comfy, some of them face the nearby road though so if that bothers you I'd advise asking for the one at the back. There is also a lovely little garden which is nicely maintained. The weather wasn't good at the time we stayed but we werent bothered and made use of the leisure centre with swimming pool, bubble baths, steam room and a hammock ;) There is also wide range of spa treatments available. There was a bit of mix up with our bill at the end but it was all dealt with promptly and professionally so again thumbs up. All in all, I am recommending the hotel to those who'd like to relax a bit, maybe go shopping to nearby Newry and simply have a good time without breaking the bank. Lidl breaks offer really great value. Thanks.

Hotel was really nice - close to all the shops - beautiful spacious rooms - really nice leisure facilities - breakfast, while the food was nice it was mayhem - staff were very disorganised – this lead through to the dinner in the restaurant – food again was superb – but trying to get everything at the same time was tough – had a dirty fork but was left for the first half of the meal without – asked for wine list, vinegar and parmesan cheese – well we are still waiting. The girl at the reception kept pointing out that we were one a %u201CLidl Break%u201D and didn’t have the same menu choices as other customers – this again was stated several times at the dinner. Bar food was superb and very reasonably priced. Overall we had a brilliant weekend and would definitely visit again.

We loved every minute of our stay and look forward to our next visit. The lovely spacious bedroom, friendly staff and excellent food in the bar and restaurant made for a great weekend break. Hotel caters really well for couples and singles. The pool and spa area are great. Newry is a short 10 minute drive and offers good shopping. This hotel is well worth a visit and offers great value for money. Celine, Dublin.

We had a lovely break, the room was of a high standard and although the menu choice was limited, the food was very good. The staff were very friendly, and the overall service was great, making for a very enjoyable stay. The Spa was very expensive compared to up North, so we decided to give it a miss, however swimming was fine. It is close to Newry so if the weather is inclement then a little retail therapy can be had! If the weather is fine, then perhaps a trip to Carlingford. Overall, value for money.
