Travel Description : Aughagower (Irish: Achadh Ghobhair) is a tiny village in rural County Mayo in western Ireland. The village is located about 2.5km from our hotel and 5km from Westport Town.

Area Description : Modern Aughagower has only a few houses and pubs in a pastoral setting. It also forms the centre of a parish of the same name. The village is primarily known today for its ancient and cultural history.

This lovely historic village has a well preserved tenth century round tower, with the exception of its topmost section and capstone. The tower was built between 973 and 1013. According to legend, the capstone was struck by lightning, and landed half a mile away on the hill of Tavenish. A local woman is said to have carried the heavy cap stone in her apron to the church where it still remains today!

lovely hotel out of the town. Ideal venue for small wedding. Rooms are lovely and the beds are so comfortable. Modern and very well kept. Large bar area with plenty of seating and televisions. Food is good. Breakfast fine but a little bit sparse. Had usual cereals and irish breakfasts but a selection of fresh fruit salad would have been nice. Staff are really friendly. would definitely recommend this place.

We had a lovely stay here, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is about 10 mins drive from Westport town. The food was beautiful, I had the hake and it was really tasty, I would highly recommend! The bar was very reasonably priced and had a lovely relaxing atmosphere. A really enjoyable stay overall!

I bought this night away for a present. It was good value for money but I would not recommend it to a friend due to lack of cleanliness. It was situated really close to town and the scenery was fab. The hotel it's self was quiet nice and staff were friendly. Be warned of music if you end up staying over the bar/function room. 3/5 if it was cleaner = 4/5.Thanks

Ask for Twin Room and got a double bed and a childs single bed with a very lumpy mattress therefore 2 of us had to share the double bed. Breakfast first morning ok as only 2 or 3 tables needed to be served and there were 2 waitresses , 2nd morning just one waitress on her own looking after about 10 tables the tea kept running out and I had requested gluten free bread on my application and it took 45 mins for it to be brought out at first they didn't think they had any. Thought the availability of the beds very bad and breakfast service on the 2nd day very poor!!! This was not the waitresses fault as she shouldn't have been left to do everything on her own

We loved the hotel. It is bright, clean and stylish. The food served in their restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. The room was spacious and extremely clean. The bed was so comfortable. We hope to return to the Westport Country Lodge Hotel and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and excellent cuisine (hang on to that chef, he/she is a gem!)

We were due to stay in this hotel recently on a one night dinner and B&B offer. We checked out in less than an hour and were not impressed. The room was very spacious and the bed looked comfortable. There was no heat in the room and it could not be turned on. Reception had to be contacted to rectify the problem. That was a minor problem and would not have put us of. The problem was with dinner. We had rang and made a reservation for dinner for 8pm changing it on the day to 8.30pm. We arrived down for dinner and asked where was the restaurant. We were met by blank looks and then shown into the bar. No table set up and the band was playing, definitely not the setting for dinner. Hotel website clearly mentions a restaurant. Decided to cut our losses and leave. Would not recommend this hotel. There seemed to be only a small number of staff on duty and it was a Saturday night.

We stayed in this hotel for one night as we were attending a wedding in Westport. The staff were excellent, very friendly and efficient, rooms were top class, very clean and comfortable, had dinner there, was very enjoyable and breakfast was also very good. Hope to visit it again before Summer is out.

4 star quality,we didn't dine in the hotel as we were meeting friends in Westport, welcome was very good, breakfast too was very good. The room was excellent and very well heated,it was very cold in late March. The room was excellent and given that the hotel is three miles outside Westport, there was no difficulty getting a taxi to and from the hotel. It was a most pleasent experience and we will definitely return.

Gentlemen: I am retired from a lifetime in hotel business - www.antumalal.com - in Chile. Although my family and I stayed oly one night in your lodge, we appreciated the place very much: rooms are large and comfortable, bathrooms are spacious. Service was very professional: kwick, gentle, acurate. Food (we had dinner) was unsofisticated but very well prepared - vegetables not overcooked, meat and seafood delicious! And what a breakfast! Congratulations!

We loved staying in the Westport Country Lodge. The hotel is in a lovely and quiet location, we enjoyed the excellent prepared food siting outside in a sunny evening, overlooking Croagh Patrick. The staff were very friendly, the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and with a lot of light. The bathroom was a good size too and the shower was very powerful, great! Breakfast was very good too. We will come back to the hotel and recommend it to anybody looking a place to stay in the Westport area.

Hotel was just perfect for our needs, quiet, small and intimate. A few issues with the menu from a Vegetarian point of view, no main course options, but the chef rustled up a lovely veg curry and a veg pasta. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Made us feel very welcome. Will be back.

Myself and my husband stayed in this hotel for one night in August 2010.It is a beautiful hotel set in fabulous countryside.Great service, beautiful bedrooms and good food.Would definately stay again.Only draw back was that dinner was served in the bar area where the tables were very low.It wiykd have been better to serve the evening meals in the dining room where breakfast is served as it has a more formal feel.Otherwise a lovely stay.

i was really impressed with this hotel, it was very clean and tidy the staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was lovely, the only issue i have is when we arrived after 5.00 our room was still not ready but we were told it would only take another 5 minutes and that was correct. but i would definitely recommend it and i would also stay in the hotel again. i will also be booking again with lidl breaks as they are great value for money.
